The US Embassy in Bandar Seri Begawan is holding an open competition for organisations to develop and implement a regional workshop on advancing gender equality, pending the availability of funds.
Under the theme civic engagement, the three-day workshop will include both men and women seeking to identify reasons behind gender inequality in Southeast Asia, as well as to find collaborative solutions to closing the gender gap.
“This will help pave the way for strong coalitions to promote the advancement of women in society, and reduce the use of stereotypes that keep women in lower-level roles,” the embassy said in a statement.
“Sharing perspectives across the region and creating opportunities for making connections alongside male champions for gender equality would be a valuable opportunity.”
The workshop will fall under the US State Department’s Young Southeast Asian Leaders Initiative (YSEALI).
Tentatively slated for April 2019, the event will gather 50 participants from the ages of 20 to 35 from all ten ASEAN countries plus Timor Leste.
The selected facilitator will be responsible for the conception and structure of the agenda and workshop, in consultation with US Embassy Bandar Seri Begawan and the US Department of State’s Bureau of East Asian and Pacific Affairs.
The embassy welcomes applications from US-based, Brunei-based and foreign non-profit or non-government organisations, as well as US, Brunei and foreign institutions of higher education.
For-profit organisations are not eligible to apply.
Proposals must provide a detailed and comprehensive narrative describing the objectives of the workshop and address their experience and expertise in Southeast Asia.
