BANDAR SERI BEGAWAN – Brunei’s internet regulator has launched a new fact-checking platform to help the public verify news and information shared on social media.

The online platform, called Waspada.bn, was launched on Wednesday (June 4) by the Authority for Info-communications Technology Industry of Brunei Darussalam (AITI) at the Digital Future Conference & Exhibition.

“The platform supports a more informed and vigilant society and is part of a broader collective effort to combat misinformation which poses risks to individuals, organisations and national harmony,” AITI said in a statement.

“The public must remain aware that not everything found on the Internet is accurate or trustworthy. While information is sometimes shared as a method to verify facts, it can inadvertently contribute to the spread of misinformation.”

For the time being, the page will be hosted on Instgram before expanding into a fully-fledged website in 2026, allowing for a more comprehensive repository of fact-checked content.

Waspada.bn is a collaboration between various government agencies, including the Ministry of Transport and Infocommunications, the Information Department, and AITI.
