BANDAR SERI BEGAWAN – Residents in the Brunei-Muara district should anticipate water supply to return by Monday, February 2, after a landslide severed a main pipeline in Batang Mitus, Tutong.

The Public Works Department (JKR) confirmed today that urgent repairs on 16 damaged pipeline sections are scheduled for completion this Sunday. However, system stabilisation will require an additional day before services are fully restored.

As of Friday, January 30, eight of the 16 sections had been repaired, but JKR noted that workers face challenging conditions due to active weather and heavy rainfall.

The disruption impacts heavily populated areas including Berakas, Gadong, Kota Batu, Kilanas, Kianggeh, and Pangkalan Batu.

Disruption to healthcare, schools and businesses

The Ministry of Health has confirmed that essential hospital services remain operational despite low water pressure, with contingency measures in place to ensure patient safety.

Haemodialysis services at affected facilities will be adjusted, with patients transferred to alternative locations where necessary. Meanwhile, the National Dental Centre and government dental clinics have restricted treatment to urgent cases only.

In the education sector, several private schools closed on Friday and are expected to remain shut until the water supply is restored.

Restaurants in commercial areas have also been impacted, with many closing or limiting services until normal supply resumes.

Emergency water supplies

JKR has mobilised an emergency response centre to deliver water supplies to critical facilities such as hospitals, clinics and mosques, as well as water intake points in residential areas.

Members of the public can access water from static water tanks (blue tanks) stationed at several locations. The full list of locations is available on JKR’s social media channels.
