It’s finally here — the sleek new A-Class Mercedes strutting a more youthful and dynamic character.

Packed with new safety features and state-of-the-art functions, the exterior of this exclusive Edition 1 is based on the distinctively sporty AMG line with numerous highlights in a special colour – Edition Green.

“This A-class drives like a C-Class. Once you get behind the wheel, you will agree the car offers the drive, look and feel you would expect from a higher segment vehicle,” said Jati Transport Sdn Bhd’s marketing executive, Daniel Loo, during a media preview on Friday.

“Compared to the previous model which was launched back in 2013, the new A-class is bigger, wider, has a lot more luggage space, head room and leg room.”

For the first time, the A-class is able to drive semi-autonomously in certain situations.

And if safety features are your priority, fret not —  the car is equipped with the latest driving assistance systems which gives the person behind the wheel cooperative support.

“[The car does not just impress with its] eye-catching designs, it is even more technologically advanced… This will be our first car to reach this milestone,” Loo said, adding that customers are keen on the state-of-the-art functions.

Two features — the Active Distance Assist DISTRONIC and Active Steering Assist — help the driver control the steering and keep a safe distance from other vehicles. The speed is also automatically adjusted on bends, at road junctions and on roundabouts.

The Mercedes PRE-SAFE PLUS feature also recognises an imminent rear-end collision, locking the brakes of a stationary vehicle to prevent it from being shunted forward by the impact.

Another new feature in the A-class is the optional head-up display where important information is projected onto the windscreen, reducing distraction from traffic.

The system comes with a two 10.25-inch displays for the instrument cluster and media display with touchscreen, a multi-function sport steering wheel with touch control buttons on the right, a USB interface (Type C), a Bluetooth connection for telephony and audio sources.

“The all new A-class will also be the first Mercedes to be equipped with an entirely new user experience,” Loo said.

The A-class comes in two models – the A200 and the A250 (AMG line) which will officially be launched to the public on Sunday, October 21.

Visitors to the Jati Transport showroom will be able to take the car out for a spin and get a feel of the brand new features the new A-class has to offer.
