The US Embassy in Bandar Seri Begawan is calling on interested parties to apply for a three-day gender equality workshop that will be held in Brunei from October 8 to 10.

The programme — an initiative under the Young Southeast Asian Leaders Initiative — will bring together 50 emerging leaders, aged 20 to 35, from all 10 ASEAN countries and Timor Leste, with experience and/or interest in areas of gender equality and women’s empowerment.

The workshop aims to create a network of young Southeast Asian leaders to work across national borders to solve common problems; find collaborative ways to close the gender gap; identify reasons behind gender inequality in Southeast Asia; promote the advancement of women in society; reduce the use of stereotypes that keep women in lower-level roles; and nurture an ASEAN community and partnership between both women and men.

The three-day workshop will include informational sessions and panel discussion with experts specialising in specific topics related to the issues of gender equality in the ASEAN region, collaborative group project pitching competition, site visits to local organisations with volunteer sessions, mentoring sessions, networking and cultural events.

All travel, lodging, and workshop costs will be sponsored by the US State Department through the US Embassy in Bandar Seri Begawan, in cooperation with Wedu as the implementing partner.

Both women and men are encouraged to apply and the deadline is Sunday, April 7, 2019.
