BANDAR SERI BEGAWAN – His Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah called on relevant authorities to ensure prayer facilities are readily available in commercial premises to make it easier for Muslims to perform their obligatory rites.
Delivering his titah during a ceremony to mark Isra’ Mi’raj at the International Convention Center (ICC) on Wednesday, the monarch expressed hopes for the teachings of Islam to become more prominent.
“As a zikir nation, providing facilities for prayers in the work place and commercial premises is a syi’arĀ that is meaningful. When these facilities are present, Muslims are able to observe the rites of solat wherever they may be,” the Sultan said.
The monarch added that the the call for prayers should also made in public spaces and not just at mosques and prayer halls, noting that the relevant authorities should take initiatives to address these issues.
“I want to emphasise that Brunei is a beautiful country that will always be devoted to Allah, guided by our Malay Islamic Monarchy (MIB) system which has been in existence for hundreds of years.”

His Majesty the Sultan went on to say that the national philosophy of MIB is a system that preserves the rights of all residents regardless of their race or creed.
“Those who visit Brunei will be able to experience a pleasant and endearing stay thanks to our safe and peaceful environment as well as kind hospitality. This is the essence of Brunei, the country of MIB.”
“Without MIB, it is not Brunei.”
