TEMBURONG – Bank Islam Brunei Darussalam (BIBD) has officially begun construction on the latest iteration of BIBD Connects in Labu Square, a new 17-hectare development in Temburong.

BIBD Connects facilities are designed as community hubs, combining banking services with retail opportunities and essential services to support economic growth in Brunei’s most remote district.

The project, slated for completion in mid-2025, will be a multi-storey building intended to strengthen community engagement and provide modern amenities for local enterprises, the bank said in a statement.

The building will house ATM services, rentable spaces for small businesses, a food and beverage area, as well as a communal space for hosting events such as pop-up markets, community gatherings and corporate functions.

As the only bank with a branch in Temburong, BIBD said the development aligns with its commitment to “fostering sustainable and holistic growth across all districts in Brunei”.

This is the third facility in the BIBD Connects series, following the success of the Lambak and Taman Mahkota Jubli Emas branches. At 3,135 square meters, the Temburong project will be the largest of the three.

The project is located at a key crossroad in Labu, Temburong, serving as a transit hub for commuters from Bandar Seri Begawan and Lawas in Sarawak.

Minister of Home Affairs, Dato Hj Ahmaddin Hj Abdul Rahman, in his capacity as Chairman of BIBD’s board, officiated the groundbreaking ceremony in Labu on Tuesday.
