BANDAR SERI BEGAWAN – The Ministry of Defence on Thursday launched new identification cards for Royal Brunei Armed Forces (RBAF) personnel to prevent security breaches and falsification of IDs.

According to the RBAF, in 2018 there was a 40 percent increase in security breaches related to personnel information.

Colonel Hj Abdul Razak Hj Abd Kadir, director of the Defence Minister’s Office and Strategic Planning Directorate, said a large number of cases included falsification and misuse of RBAF personnel ID.

“Among the reasons these incidents occur is the culture among a number of personnel who are indifferent to the consequences of such actions,” he said in a speech given at the Bolkiah Garrison during the launch of the Security Enhancement Expo.

“This figure is very concerning and it shows us that we need to take preventative measures before this issue persists.”

He added that the new upgraded IDs are equipped with improved security features that will make the cards difficult to falsify.

The RBAF also intends to expand the functionality of the cards as the Ministry of Defence moves forward in upgrading its systems.
