Brunei’s own amusement playground Jerudong Park received an overwhelming response from Malaysian customers during the Miri Trade Fair (MITRAF) 18 over the weekend, held at Bintang Megamall in the neighbouring state of Sarawak.

During the fair, the park sold close to 1,000 tickets, including 160 family packages, more than 220 adult and 70 child tickets, in addition to JP merchandise, tumblers, magnets and diamond crystal pens.

The four-day event was an opportunity to increase inbound tourism to Brunei, said JP management, while at the same time promoting the theme park to the region.

The first time participating in the fair proved fruitful for JP, who also offered packages to Malaysian tourists that included promotional rates for Parkview Hotel and the paintball arena in Jerudong.

JP’s Sales, Marketing and Events Manager, Hjh Siti Norzalena PDHA Rahman, said taking part in the event allowed them to understand the Miri market better, and was the first step to establishing a presence in Borneo.

“Through our interactions with the public, we’re able to improve our services and encourage more Malaysians to enjoy Jerudong Park,” she said. “We are looking forward to organising more roadshows in east and west Malaysia.”

After China, Malaysia is the second biggest source of visitors to Brunei, statistics from the first quarter of 2018 show. In the first three months of this year, Brunei received 15,208 Malaysian tourists.
