BANDAR SERI BEGAWAN – Royal Brunei Airlines (RB) confirmed on Thursday that a flight from Hong Kong to Brunei encountered a “power bank incident” mid-flight, with video footage from passengers showing a smoke-filled cabin after a portable power bank allegedly combusted onboard.

The videos and images — which racked up thousands of shares on Facebook — shows the aircraft cabin filled with smoke, while passengers covered their mouths and faces as flight attendants extinguished the source of the small fire.

In a statement released Thursday evening, the airline said all passengers and crew were unharmed and the flight landed in Bandar Seri Begawan as scheduled.

“Our cabin crew is trained to follow standard operating procedures to handle such incidents professionally and to ensure the safety of our guests at all times. We carry the recommended safety equipment on board at all times,” RB said.

The airline reminded guests to observe International Air Transport Association (IATA) Dangerous Goods Regulations for both carry-on and checked-in baggage.
